Mochi Packaging

Mochi, Ice Cream Re-Packaging

Spring 2012

Mochi is one of my favorite ice cream products, but unfortunately it comes in a somewhat offensive looking box. For my final packaging design project at the Kansas City Art Institute, I decided to re-imagine the packaging for this product.

My goal was to find a packaging solution that honors this delicious dessert. Mochi is a Japanese product, so when I began the research for this project I started by looking at traditional Japanese packaging solutions. In the end I decided to riff off of traditional Japanese rice packaging, which also rolls the top of the paper bag and is tied with a piece of string.

In the future I'd like to revisit this project and add a cellophane window so that the product can be seen from the outside. Stay tuned for future additions to this project!
